She leaves two daughters. MRS.SUSAN IDELLA MORGAN--81 years,mother of Mrs.Irene COX,of Ripley,died Saturday at the home of her son,W. Guy MORGAN, at Nut Bush,after a two rear illness.Services were Sunday at Medina Baptist Church,burial in Hopewell Cemetery. Her husband,J.B. MORGAN,a Madison County farmer,died in 1930. She also leaves two other sons,Carl MORGAN,of Jackson and Charlie MORGAN,of Humboldt; and another daughter,Mrs.Nora ACREE,of Jackson. SERVICES FOR--Malcolm R. BRATCHER,a farmer of Edith,were held Monday at Edith Methodist Church,burial in Edith Cemetery.He was 48. JOHNNY BRANTLEY JOHNSON--14 years,nephew of R.L. BRANTLEY,of Gates,was killed Friday of last week in the collision of his motorcycle,at Lamar and Kyle in Memphis,with an ambulance. The son of Mr.& Mrs.Charles L. JOHNSON,he was a 9th grader at Bellevue Junior High School. Police said the negro driver of the ambulance ran through a stop light,although he had his emergency light flashing. SERVICES FOR--Mrs.E.L. BEAVER were held Monday at New Salem Methodist Church,Covington,burial in Ravenscroft Cemetery,west of Covington,in the Beaver community. Mrs.BEAVER, 75, died Sunday in the Lauderdale County Hospital.She was born in Tipton County,but made her home in Lauderdale County for 22 years. She leaves two daughters,Mrs.W.G. THOMPSON,Sr.,with whom she made her home,and Mrs.E.P. MAYS,both of Ripley; one sister,Mrs.G.P. FRENCH,of Drummonds. MRS.EFFIE LEONA RITCHIE CRAVER-- mother of Carl S. CARVER,of Henning,died early Monday,December 22nd at her home in Dyer,after a long illness.She was 88. Services were Tuesday at Dyer's First Baptist Church,burial in Oakwood Cemetery.Mrs.CARVER,born in Wetague,Illinois,had lived in Dyer 61 years.She was married to the late Robert L.CARVER, contractor,on September 12,1897. She also leaves a daughter, Miss Mary CARVER,of Dyer; one sister,Mrs.T.E. BARRINGER,of East St.Louis,Illinois. DYERSBURG, DECEMBER 31st.--Manslaughter charges have been filed against Henry CARPER, 32, of Bradley's Ferry community,near Finley,whose truck collided Monday night of last week with a 1952 Oldsmobile sedan in which John Wesley JONES, 18, nephew of Dr. C.R. WEBB,of Ripley,was fatally hurt. The boy,son of Mr.& Mrs. Ike JONES,Jr.,of Jones Road,Dyersburg,died Tuesday night at Parkview Hospital.Young JONES was riding with Tommy CRIBBS, 17, son of T.B.I. agent, John CRIBBS. Officers said CARPER was intoxicated. Ike PEEL, who lives near the scene of the wreck pulled the injured boy from the blazing car.Besides his parents,he leaves his sisters, Ann & Janelle JONES; his paternal grandmother,Mrs. H.V. BRYANT and his maternal grandmother,Mrs.Ora WEBB, all of Dyersburg. SEARING TRAGEDY--cut short the Christmas Eve laughter of Lonnie VAUGHN, 17, and his friend,Earl SICKBERT,Jr.,also 17, when the pickup in which they rode,withSICKBERT's father, 50, collided with an automobile, overturned and burned on Highway 162, outside Granite City, Illinois.Their vehickle's left front fender hit that of the car of Lynn BATTY, 23, of St.Louis,overturning on its right side.Gasoline spilled from it and ignited. Mr.SICKBERT scrambled out the window, and his son, assisted by a push given him from VAUGHN, managed with some difficulty to do the same. Flames then flared up, trapping VAUGHN inside, he burned to death. Services for the youth were held Saturday at Garners Funeral Home, Ripley, burial in Grace Cemetery. He leaves his mother; one brother,Reuben VAUGHN,of Granite City; five sisters, Lynn VAUGHN,of Granite City, Mrs. Ernest FREEMAN,of Hernando,Miss., Mrs. Donald LATHEM and Mrs. Letha TOWNSEND,both of Memphis,and Mrs. Charles COX,of Chicago. BOYDSTUNS KILLED EN ROUTE TO HOLIDAY RE-UNION--Memphis bound for a gay holiday reunion with their daughter and her family,the Cecil BOYDSTUNS were fatally injured late Christmas Eve afternoon when their gift laden car hit another on Highway 70,about 10 miles from the city. Rushed to Methodist Hospital,they were dead on arrival,while their daughter, Mrs.George KLEE waited for them in her home at 1440 Brewer.An hour and a half after they were due, Mr.KLEE called the highway patrol office and learned of the accident.Funeral services were held Friday at Garners Funeral Home, Ripley, burial was in Maplewood Cemetery. Mr.BOYDSTUN, 77, was born near Ripley,and had spent his life here, operated Boydstun's Cleaners for 48 years. Mrs.BOYDSTUN, 75, formerly Miss Carrie SANFORD, leaves one sister, Mrs. W.F. WOODS, of Atlanta. Besides their daughter,the BOYDSTUNS left a son, Charles BOYDSTUN, associated with his father in the Cleaners. He also leaves one brother, Elbert BOYDSTUN, of San Diego,Calif.; and two sisters,both of Ripley; Mrs.Clara TARRANT and Mrs.W.F. WOODS,of Atlanta.Three persons were injured in the other car- the driver,Robert TROTTER, 22, of Eads,and his passengers, Mr.& Mrs. Robert GAMMELL,of Memphis. They were admitted to Methodist Hospital, their condition satisfactory.These two lanes are outbound from Memphis,center lines were crossed by the Boydstun car. Friends surmise Mr. BOYDSTUN had a heart attack. GEORGIA SERVICES MOURNING BOYDSTUNS' BROTHER-IN-LAW--W. FRANK WOODS, Ruberoid Co. salesman, died Monday in Atlanta,Ga.,where he reside 15 years. Services were held Tuesday, he was 61. Reared in Lewisburg,Tennessee, he leaves his wife,Mrs.Annie Sanford WOODS; and one daughter, Miss Marie WOODS. FEW MILES FROM HOME,DEATH ENDS 1000 MILE JOURNEY--Bobby R. BAKER, 25 year-old Countian working in Chicago,Illinois,was killed there Sunday evening a few miles short of completing a 1,000 mile journey to spend his Christmas here. SHOOTING ACCIDENT TAKES BOY'S LIFE--Ernest ATKIN,15 year-old negro boy,was dead on arrival at Lauderdale County Hospital on New Year's Day,after a shooting accident at Long Hole Bluff. Chief deputy sheriff Raymond HATHCOCK reported that AITKIN had returned from hunting when Lonnie WINBUSH pulled a shotgun from the rear seat of the auto.The weapon dischared and shot the youth in the neck. Mr.PETREE, who was to celebrate his 58th birthday Thursday, died Wednesday morning of a heart attack.He was born in Pleasant Site,Ala.,and moved to Memphis at age 18, where he was employed as the three county distributorship in 1929 of Tipton,Lauderdale and Haywood Counties,for the Texas Co.,he also had farming interests in Tipton and Lauderdale Counties. FITZGERALD,a farmer of the Lightfoot community,were held at 2:30 Monday afternoon at Mount Pleasant Methodist Church.The Rev.Pittman MARBURY officiated. Burial was in the church cemetery. Mr.FITZGERALD, 71, died at 12:15 a.m.Sunday in Lauderdale County Hospital, which he entered on Thursday. A lifelong resident of Lauderdale County,he was a member of the Holiness Church. Services were Monday at Brownsville Funeral Home,burial in Mt.Pleasant Cemetery here. His wife,Birdie HARRIS,said her blind husband,who smoked,had set himself afire several times earlier. She said she woke up about 2 a.m.and heard the flames crackling loudly. "I opened to door to the hall where he was sleeping on the couch,"she said,"but it was a mass of flames,I had to shut it and I and my grandchild went out the window." Mr. PAYNE, 71, died when the car,stolen from Norman H. DUNCAN,of Memphis, driven by sailor, Wayne FRANK, 20, of LaMesa,Calif.,stationed at Millington, failed to make a curve on Highway 77,according to police.FRANK was arrested four hours later,near the scene and charged with involuntary manslaughter and possession of stolen property.
