JOHNSON COUNTY, TN - OBITUARIES - Tommy D. Collins, 15 Oct 2003 --------------¤¤¤¤¤¤-------------- Tommy D. Collins Tommy D. Collins, 74, Elizabethton, died Wednesday, October 15, 2003 at his residence. A native of Johnson County, he was a son of the late James C. and Emma Alma White Collins. He had lived in Elizabethton for the past five years. Mr. Collins was a former saw mill operator and retired from Jarl Extrusions of Elizabethton. He was a member of Roan Creek Masonic Lodge #679, Butler; a member of the Butler Chapter #218 Order of Eastern Star; the Scottish Rite, Knoxville, and Jericho Temple, Kingsport. Mr. Collins served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. He was a member of Little Doe Baptist Church, Butler. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Helen Jordan Collins and a brother, George P. Collins. Survivors include his wife, Vera Giles Collins; two step-sons, Paul Giles, Jr. and Jeff Giles and his wife, Janet, all of Elizabethton; a sister, Charlene Kite, Johnson City; a sister- in-law, Barbara Collins, Johnson City; one step-granddaughter, Emily Paige Giles, and one niece and two nephews. Funeral services for Tommy Collins will be conducted at 8 p.m. Friday, October 17, 2003 in Memorial Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Mark Street officiating. Graveside services and interment will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, October 18, 2003 in the Sunset Memorial Park, Mountain City. Joel Street, Sr. and Sharon Roark will provide the music. Active pallbearers, who are requested to assemble at the funeral home at 10 a.m. Saturday will be Pat Collins, Shelly Lester Roark, Danny Street, Harold Church, Darrell Bailey and Jed Dickey. Honorary pallbearers will be Verl Blackburn, Clyde Street, George Campbell, Lester Roark, Paris Street, Eckert Street, Moss Honeycutt, Bud Maines, Richard Nave, Bob Cable, Percy Matherly, Gene Hartsook, David Millsaps, Doug Millsaps, Haggard McEwen, Dr. Daniel Paul and the staff of Adventa Hospice. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday in the funeral home. Friends may also call at the residence of a step-son and step-daughter-in-law, Jeff and Janet Giles, 399 Coal Shute Rd., Elizabethton. Roan Creek Masonic Lodge #679 will conduct a memorial service following the funeral service. Family and friends will assemble at the funeral home at 10 a.m. Saturday to go to the cemetery.
