Ward at Swan Bluff, 5 miles south of here, was robbed and totally destroyed by fire Sunday night, according to reports of witnesses. Douglas Matthews, a neighbor of the proprietor, discovered the fire about ten o'clock and was later joined by Harold Peery of Swan. They broke a window on the west side of the building which afforded a view of the interior showing the steel safe door open apparently empty, and the coal oil tank overturned, and in flames. The rear of the building was burning so that it was impossible to reach the back door which was open. A wagon kept in a shed at the rear of the building, was taken to safety, after which Dr. Ward, who was asleep at his home 100 yards from the scene, was awakened. The total loss is estimated at $1,800, with $1,000 insurance. No trace of the robbers has yet been found.
