I have given to my daughter Minerva Scruggs following named Negro slaves as to who I have fixed the Value in viz – Negro Woman Vicey Valued at $600.00 " do Henrietta " " 650.00 " Boy Hilliard " " 750.00 $2000.00 I have given to my daughter Elizabeth A. Morgan following named Negro slaves viz: Julia or woman valued at $600.00 Charlotte " " " " 600.00 Susan " girl " " 600.00 Erasmus " Man " " 400.00 $2200.00 I have given to my son Richd H Rivers following named Negro Slaves viz: Negro Man Charles valued at $550.00 " Anne or Woman " " 250.00 " Boy Amos " " 550.00 " Girl Caroline " " 400.00 " Boy Sandy " " 300.00 " Boy Joseph " " 150.00 $2200.00 I have given to my Son Thomas Rivers following named Negro slaves viz: Negro man Newman Valued at $700.00 " Woman Margaret " " 600.00 " Adalener Girl " " 600.00 " Girl Lucinda " " 500.00 " Boy Alfred " " 450.00 " Girl Fanny " " 400.00 " Boy Wallace " " 300.00 $3550.00 Which said slaves so by me given off as above stated to Thomas Rivers exceeds the share by me intended for him to the amount of $1062.50 Ten hundred and sixty two Dollars and fifty cents, for which said excess I have taken his Note due and payable to me on the 25th day of December next out of which I direct and order, that $487.50 Four hundred and Eighty Seven Dollars and fifty cents be paid to Minerva Scruggs. And that $287.50 Two hundred and eighty Seven Dollars and 50 Cents be paid out of said Note to Elizabeth A Morgan - And that the residue of Said Note $287.50 Two Hundred and Eighty Seven Dollars & 50 Cents be paid to Richd H Rivers which will equalize the shares of my said children making the interest of each 101 one amount to $2487.50 according to the Valuation by me put upon the slaves so by me given off as above stated, which Valuation in my judgement I deem fair and equal. I give to my Grand Son Edmund Scruggs a Negro Boy Henry aged about 13 Years of Black Color to have and to hold to him and his heirs forever on I will and bequeath to my Wife Sally Rivers the following named Negro Slaves To wit: Jim a man - Isaac a man - Pleasant a man - Phillis a woman - Eley a woman - Martha a woman - Tiller a woman & her three children Dick, Willie and Sally - & All the rest of my Estate of any and every description real and personal which I may die siaeged and possessed of - to have and to hold to her and her heirs forever absolutely – I appoint my wife Sally Rivers and my son Thomas Rivers Executrix and Executor of this my last Will and Testament and order and direct that they be exonerated from giving Bond and security as required by Law in such cases. There was the foregoing last Will & Testament of Edmunds Rivers dcd. produced in Open Court for probate, and proven by the Oaths of J L Pulliam and S F McNutt the two Subscribing Witnesses to the Same and ordered to be certified recorded and filed.
