Mr. Sams was a native of Carter County and the son of the late Lee and Mattie Carr Sams. He was also preceded in death by two daughters, Ruby Jean Sams and Linda Kaye Sams, two sisters, Goldie Morris and Luda Van Dyke, and a brother, Mitchel Sams. Mr. Sams was a member of the Sims Hill Christian Church and a retired mechanic of Bemberg Corporation. Survivors include his wife, Selma Reynolds Sams, of the home; two daughters and a son-in-law, Karen Sams and Gloria and Gerald Holly, all of Elizabethton; three sons and two daughters-in-law, Ross and Barbara Sams, Art and Debbie Sams and Greg Sams, all of Elizabethton; two granddaughters, Barbara Earlene Rutledge, Bluff City, and Jessica Taylor, Chucky; three grandsons, David Sams, Dyersburg, Jeremy Holly, Elizabethton, and Josh Sams, Kingsport; a great-granddaughter, Amber Rutledge, Bluff City; five sisters, Launa Merritt, Elizabethton, Christine Leonard, Hampton, Trula Fortner, Roan Mountain, Louise Renfro, Johnson City, and Selma Perry, Bluff City; and a brother, Stanley Sams, Wagner, S.C. Tetrick Funeral Home, Riverside Chapel, (423) 542-2232, is in charge of arrangements. www.Funeral-Plans.com/Tetrick SAMS -- Funeral services for Herbert Sams, 86, 285 Old Lacey Hollow Road, Elizabethton, who died Thursday, November 2, 2000, will be conducted at 8 p.m. Friday, November 3, at Tetrick Funeral Home, Riverside Chapel, with Mr. Ernie Depew and Mr. Hugh Hatfield, ministers, officiating. Graveside services and interment will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, November 4, at Happy Valley Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be Horace Bowers, Steve Rutledge, Mack Henry, Arthur Keller, Fred Farr, Russell Kyte, John D. Snyder and Ron Odom. Honorary pallbearers will be the men of Sims Hill Christian Church, Darrell Carter and Doyle Turbyfill. Everyone will meet at the funeral home at 9:15 a.m. Saturday to go in procession to the cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Friends may also call at the residence of a daughter and son-in-law, Gloria and Gerald Holly, 1393 Bristol Highway, Elizabethton, at any time.
