CARTER COUNTY, TN - OBITUARIES - James Allen Lipps, 20 Nov 2003 ----¤¤¤---- James A. Lipps Ret. Chief Petty Officer James Allen Lipps, 81, St. Johns Drive, Gansevoort, N.Y., formerly of Orlando, Fla., died Thursday, November 20, 2003, at Glens Falls, N.Y. Hospital following a brief illness. Mr. Lipps was a native of Carter County and the son of the late James N. and Ellen Nelson Lipps. He was also preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters. Mr. Lipps was retired from the U.S. Navy, having served in World War II and the Vietnam Conflict. He was awarded the Good Conduct Medal, the Navy Achievement Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal, the Vietnam Campaign Medal, the National Defense Service Medal and a Navy Unit Commendation. He was a member of Stoney Creek Baptist Church. Survivors include five daughters and four sons-in-law, Brenda Lacey, Knoxville, Barbara "Bobbie" and Dave Honeycutt and Beverly "Tootie" and Lanny White, all of Elizabethton, Phressy and Rob Sheldon, Gansevoort, N.Y., and Velvet and Jim Moroney, Manassas Park, Va.; two sisters, Carrie Campbell and Gertie Grindstaff, both of Elizabethton; a brother, Burl Lipps, Erwin; six grandchildren, Whitney Boylan, Raleigh, N.C., Roman White and Rhonda Lacey, both of Johnson City, Scott Lacey, Jonesborough, Mandy Holly, Elizabethton, and Robert James R.J." Sheldon, Gansevoort, N.Y.; and a great-grandson, John Mackin Boylan, Raleigh, N.C. Several nieces and nephews also survive. Graveside services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday, November 24, at Mountain Home National Cemetery, Mountain Home, with the Rev. Richard Estep and the Rev. Brent Seals officiating. Active pallbearers will be grandsons and sons-in-law. Military Honors will be accorded by the Naval Reserve Center Honor Guard, Asheville, N.C. Friends may visit at Hathaway-Percy Funeral Home between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Sunday, November 23. Everyone will meet at the funeral home at 1:15 p.m. Monday to go in procession to the cemetery.
