Robert H. Hurley

Robert Howard Hurley, 78, of Elizabethton, died Tuesday, October 
22, 2002 in the James H. Quillen VA Nursing Home, Mountain Home, 
TN. He was a native of Carter County and was the son of the late 
Jessie James and Lula Garland Hurley. Mr. Hurley was a retired 
employee of North American Rayon Corporation. He had lived in 
Holmes Beach, Fla. since his retirement in 1986. He was a World 
War II veteran, having fought in the European Theater, and was a 
recipient of the Purple Heart after being wounded during the Battle 
of the Bulge. He was preceded in death by two brothers and one 
sister. Mr. Hurley is survived by several cousins. Tetrick Funeral

HURLEY -- Graveside services for Robert Howard Hurley, 78, of 
Elizabethton, who died Tuesday, October 22, 2002, will be conducted 
at 4 p.m. Thursday, October 24, 2002 in the Garland Cemetery, with 
Mr. John Garland officiating. Military honors will be accorded by 
Capt. Lynn H. Folsom V.F.W. Post #2166. Pallbearers will be selected 
from family and friends. Those who plan to attend the graveside 
service are asked to meet at the cemetery at 3:55 p.m. on Thursday, 
October 24, 2002. Friends may call at the funeral home at their 
convenience Thursday between the hours of 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. In lieu 
of flowers, those who prefer may make donations in memory of Mr. 
Hurley to Garland Cemetery, 2845 U.S. Highway 91, Elizabethton, TN 
37643, or to the Gideons International, P.O. Box 1951, Elizabethton,
