Holtsclaw "Dana Ray" Holtsclaw, 73, Old Jonesboro Road, Bristol, Tenn., died Thursday, May 3, 2001, at the Wellmont Bristol Regional Medical Center. He was preceded in death by his mother, Ethel Holtsclaw and his father, Weaver Holtsclaw, Roan Mountain, Tenn.; brothers, Orville Holtsclaw, Voyd Holtsclaw, and Conley Holtsclaw; and a half-sister, Norma Rea Street, Roan Mountain, Tenn. He was married to Mildred Trent Holtsclaw on May 3, 1954. He was a native of Roan Mountain, Tenn., and a well-known bluegrass DJ in Bristol. He worked at several radio stations: WCYB, WKYE and WBBI, and was presently working at WOPI. He retired in 1990 from Raytheon Corp. after 32 years. He February 2001, he was honored by the Birthplace of Country Music Alliance as a Major Contributor to Bluegrass/Country Music. He was of the Baptist faith. Survivors include his wife of 47 years, Mildred Trent Holtsclaw; two sons and daughter-in-law, Kenneth and Judy Holtsclaw, Morristown, Tenn.; and Eddie Holtsclaw, Bristol, Tenn.; two daughters, Wilma Cox, Bluff City, Tenn.; and Brenda Holtsclaw, Kingsport, Tenn.; two grandsons, Jeremy Holtsclaw and Lance Holtsclaw, Morristown, Tenn.; two granddaughters, Amber Cox, Fresno, Calif.; and Andrea Cox, Virginia Beach, Va.; one great-granddaughter, Madison Holtsclaw, Morristown, Tenn.; three sisters, Verna Hughes, Onza Johnson and Beulah Hughes, all of Roan Mountain, Tenn.; one brother, Carmon Holtsclaw, Roan Mountain, Tenn.; and one half-sister, Renalee Whitehead, Roan Mountain, Tenn. Weaver Funeral Home, 423-968-2111, 630 Locust Street, Bristol, Tenn., is in charge of arrangements. HOLTSCLAW -- Funeral services for "Dana Ray" Holtsclaw, 73, Old Jonesboro Rd, Bristol, Tenn., who died Thursday, were conducted at 8 p.m. Saturday in the Weaver Funeral Home Chapel, with the Revs. Lyons Smith and Bob Emmert officiating. The committal will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Eastern Heights Cemetery. Pallbearers will be George DeVault, Mac Blevins, Larry Gorley, Dennis Wenk, Gary Holtsclaw and Jackie Vance. The family received friends from 5-7:45 p.m. Saturday at the Weaver Funeral Home. "If Everyone Loved Bluegrass Music like 'Dana Ray' did, The World Would be Great to Live In."
