Hicks 09/09/99 Daniel Louis Hicks, 84, 129 Alexander Street, Hampton, died Monday, September 6, 1999, at the James H. Quillen VA Medical Center. Mr. Hicks was a native of Carter County and a son of the late Charlie and Alice Henson Hicks. He was also preceded in death by three sisters and five brothers. Mr. Hicks was a retired employee of Summers-Taylor Inc., and an Air Force Veteran of World War II. He was a member of the Hampton Christian Church. Survivors include his wife, Donnis Potter Hicks; a daughter, Peggy Long, Windon, Ohio; two sons, Douglas Hicks Sr., Matthews, N.C., and Larry Hicks, Goshen, Ky.; a stepdaughter, Brenda Sneyd, Johnson City; a stepson, Wayne Winters, Union, N.J.; and a sister, Mrs. Edith Oliver, Akron, Ohio. Four grandchildren, one great-grandchild, four stepgrandchildren and several nieces and nephews also survive. Memorial Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements. HICKS -- Funeral services for Daniel Louis Hicks, 84, 129 Alexander Street, Hampton, who died Monday, will be conducted at 3 p.m. Friday at Memorial Funeral Chapel with Mr. Dwayne Calhoun and Rev. Raymond Caudill officiating. Music will be provided by the Hampton Christian Church Quartet. Interment will be at Happy Valley Memorial Park. Military Graveside Honors will be conducted by the Captain Lynn H. Folsom VFW Post #2166. Active pallbearers, who are requested to assemble at the funeral home at 2:50 p.m. Friday, will be Gary Montgomery, Terry Montgomery, Jerry Montgomery, David Montgomery, Wayne Heaton, Danny McClain, Ernie Potter and John Calhoun. Honorary pallbearers will be Joe White, Melvin Campbell, Raymond Montgomery, Louie Greenwell, Bud Grindstaff, John Lewis and the Adult Men's Sunday School Class of Hampton Christian Church. The family will receive friends from 2 to 3 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Friends may also call at the residence of his stepdaughter, Brenda Sneyd, 1007 Melrose Avenue, Johnson City. To those who prefer, memorials may be made in memory of Mr. Hicks to the Building Fund of Hampton Christian Church, 810 Deerfield Lane, Hampton, Tenn. 37658.
