Holden Clarence Edward Holden, 72, of Elizabethton, died Monday, July 2, 2007, at Johnson City Medical Center. A native of Carter County, he was a son of the late Lloyd R. and Cecelia Jane Lunceford Holden. Mr. Holden was retired from the United States Army after 21 years of service and retired with the rank of Master Sgt. He served in the Korean Conflict and the Vietnam Era. He was of the Baptist faith. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Slagle Holden, November 19, 2005. Survivors include a sister, Lorene Myers of Elizabethton, and several nieces and nephews, including a special niece, Carolyn Shrader of Elizabethton. Funeral services for Mr. Holden will be conducted at 3 p.m. Wednesday, July 4, at Memorial Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Eric Heaton officiating. Graveside services and interment will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, July 5, in the Mountain Home National Cemetery. Military Honors will be provided by the VFW Post No. 2166 and the Tennessee National Guard. Pallbearers will be selected from family and friends. The family will receive friends from 2 to 3 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Family and friends will assemble at the funeral home at 10:15 a.m. Thursday to go to the cemetery.
