(Son of Reuben and Sarah) Pension Certificate #109042 in the name of Ester Smiddy Widow X her mark. Living at Jacksboro, TN Papers have Reuben Smitty, Reuben Smithy, and Reuben Smiddy on them. From the Adjutant General's office: Reuben Smitty enlisted Aug. 1, 1861 as Private Co. B 1st. Reg. of Tenn. Inf. At Barboursville, KY. Died at Camp Nelson, Ky. Aug 20, 1863 of Acute Dysentery. He is sometimes known as Reuben Smithy. The name of Reuben Smiddy is not found. Wife's maiden name: Ester Hicks Married July 20, 1856 in CAMPBELL County, Tn. by A.S. Keaton, Esq. In 1867 Ester Smiddy is 27. She died June 20, 1927 in Jellico, Buried near Jellico. Children: Lewis B. Man 27, 1857 Louisa B. Oct 28, 1858 Patsey A. B. June 7, 1860 Caswell April 4, 1863 Ester Smiddy was not married again, but she has a daughter Julia Ayers applying for reimbursement for bills for burial of her mother. In 1927 Julia Ayers was 50.
