Ammon John R. Ammon was born at Leavenworth, Indiana, November 25, 1860, the son of George W. and Nancy C. (Peckinpaugh) Ammon. His father, who was a farmer, was born at Madison, Indiana, February 22, 1819, and died at Emmetsburg, Iowa, June 12, 1887; he was vice president and a stockholder in the Ammon, Scott & Company manufacturing concern. His mother, who was president of the local Women’s Christian Temperance Union at Emmetsburg, was born at Cape Sandy, Indiana, May 18, 1825, and died at Hammond, Nebraska November 14, 1910. Mr. Ammon received his education in Iowa where be attended public grade school and a private academy. He was a teacher for a time and engaged in the creamery business at Emmetsburg from 1880 to 1884. He holds membership in the Ancient Order of United Workmen at Hammond, Nebraska, is a member v)f the Independent Order of Odd Fellows, and is affiliated with Sybrant Evangelical Church. He has been a farmer near Hammond for many years A Republican, Mr. Ammon served as Republican county chairman, was precinct committeeman for a time, and has attended various state conventions of his party as delegate. He has lived in this state continuously since 1884, and has taken an active part in the progress of his community. His marriage to Ida Estella Sybrant: was solemnized at Sybrant, Nebraska, November 14, 1889. Mrs. Ammon, who is the daughter of David O. and Rozilla Gilbert Sybrant, was born at Guy’s Mills, Pennsylvania, July 25, 1864. Their children are: Ben E., born August 29, 1890, who married Estella R. Barker; Harold G., born February 15, 1892, who married Addie A. Welton; and Nancy L., born October 23, 1902. Both sons are farmers in Rock County, Nebraska. Residence: Hammond.
