The Nebraska State Journal Thur May 29, 1890

While the family of George M. Briggs, a farmer living in
Banner county, were asleep in the house, which was a 
"dug out." the ridge log broke and falling across the
beds occupied by the family crushed the skull of Elmer,
a nine year old son, causing instant death.
