She was the daughter of James Henry and Ann Darden Person. She was educated at Murfreesboro College. In religion she was a Methodist. In 1876, she married Joseph James Claud. She lived during the era of the Civil War and the Spanish American War, sent a son to Europe during World War I, and saw the beginning of World War II. It is said that she accepted the great changes which came during her life time gracefully and always lived in the present. Her gracious manner and fine character won her many friends. Her unselfish spirit found expression in serving the less fortunate in the community in which she lived, that of Emporia, Virginia. She survived her husband. The month of her death was in July and the year was somewhere between 1936 and 1940. She was survived by others than her children, one sister Adelaide Drewry and two brothers, Edward and Herbert Person. Interment was in Emporia cemetery. Lois Claud White was the only child of Mary Lucy who was living.
